Way back in.. September, I clogged the right extruder and couldn't clear it without taking it apart, so I just started using the left extruder exclusively. This past week was quiet in the Makerspace and Mike Renne agreed to stop by to help disassemble the extruder unit and clear it. I am very grateful he allows me to do the majority of the work - I wish I were as "hands off". I know it's the right thing to do - in his case of course it's our printer - I break - I bought it.., but it really is the best way to have someone learn is by actually doing.. :) Sounds like Maker Mentality, doesn't it? I'm leaving pics of our dual extruded items we've printed so far. I'm still working on how to use Simplify's Dual extruder wizard. I sure have learned a lot this year!
Also this week because it was quiet in the Makerspace (no one was using it), I was able to write a grant for ~$3,000 worth of Legos. Ecolab - I've been successful before. It's where my first foray into outside grants went for a Document Camera and projector - and look where it got me!
Too, we've gotten Golden Tickets for 6 students from KMS to attend the UNCG Maker Camp this summer. Am very grateful for Ann Webb and her ability to stay on top of things. She's done all of the contacting, etc on this - I would have dropped that ball!
Finally, although we don't have students in the Makerspace, our iPads have been used and we've worked with 6th Grade ELA on a Twitter Feed summary activity on 4/14 - 4/15 following the death of Abraham Lincoln and the capture of his assasin, John Wilkes Booth, who, with no coincidence because that is just how amazing Ms Simmons and Mr Hussey are - Abraham Lincoln was shot of 4/14 and died 4/15. I had to create 12 gmail account & 12 Twitter accounts. It's a pretty slick activity. Want to get pics and documentation. Will keep you posted.
