We've been so busy with the start of school! The drone's clockwise motor has arrived and it's installed. The propellers need to be leveled(?) It seems to be listing to the right/backward on take off, but it is operational! I can't say how many times I have told people - "It's the Makerspace way! You can't be afraid to break things!" - I'm not sure I'm not trying to convince myself!
We were given a 25 minute slot of time for groups of teachers to come into our Makerspace and be introduced to our inventory. We allowed them to wander amongst the tables, (see below) for ~ 5 minutes. We had them find a seat and with the help of a comprehensive list I'd made on the board, we went through what we had to offer discussing how Maker ideals, while they won't appeal to all students will engage more students than we've engaged before. We discussed, (a la UNCG's learning sciences class), the need to be off equilibrium enough to want to learn more, but not too much so they give up. Of special attraction were the Green screen, the Makey-Makey, and the TABLES! We invited the teachers to write suggestions about what they might use each item for in their classroom. Following are pics of the event.
